A painful blister that can occur around the mouth and lips as a symptom of oral herpes, or herpes simplex virus I. Oral herpes can be spread through skin to skin contact with an infected person even if the person has no visible symptoms. There is currently no cure for oral herpes, but you can reduce the risk of spreading oral herpes by using a barrier protection method such as a condom or dental dam, or abstaining from sex altogether.
