A condition that is caused by a growth of bacteria in the vagina that can be associated with leaving in a tampon too long. Although rare, TSS can cause severe health problems and possibly death. Symptoms include sudden fever of 102 or more, vomiting, diarrhea, fainting or dizziness when standing up, or a sunburn-like rash. A doctor should be seen immediately if these symptoms occur.
